Meta Delays Phoenix AR Glasses to 2027 Amid UX Refinement Push
Meta Platforms has pushed back the launch of its Phoenix mixed reality headset by nearly a year to early 2027, according to internal communications. The delay allows Reality Labs engineers to prioritize Core functionality over rushed market entry.
The lightweight device, which uses an external processing puck, represents Meta's strategic pivot toward comfort-oriented hardware. "We won't compromise on landing a fully polished experience," stated executives Gabriel Aul and Ryan Cairns in employee memos reviewed by sources.
This postponement follows Meta's pattern of extending timelines for metaverse hardware. The company previously delayed its Project Nazare AR glasses indefinitely, suggesting a recalibration of its augmented reality roadmap.
